Recently I had a website created for me, it’s still in the making, its not published or open to the public yet. There are a few things that I would like to do with the website but the person that helped create the website is not able to change up the website the way I want it or add certain features that I would like. It is a very basic eCommerce website, I will be selling products to customers.

Knowing that it was created by someone, could this website be updated, changed up, add features, etc. by somebody else? I am currently using GoDaddy as my Host, so it is there Server that I am using right now.

Would I be able to use someone else to help change up my website? Or am I stuck with the website the way it is. The problem that I have is adding items to my website, right now I have to add them 1 at a time and I have thousands of items that I will like to add, this will take me forever to add them all to my website. I am looking for a way that I can possibly add all the information on an Excel Sheet and upload it to the website. At my previous job they had Yahoo as there Host, we were adding all the product information into an Excel file, and then it was uploaded to the website.

I need some help with this because I am new to creating websites but I am trying to learn HTML on the side so I can catch on to it.

Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank You in advance

ummm......

Well I'm a student just now learning about this type of thing but I might be able to give you some guidance. Yes, another programmer could pick up where the last guy left off, possibly without too many problems.

There are a number of ways to add those items but it depends on the way your site is set up. Are there pictures involved?

Depending on the complexity of this you might need someone to write you a program that puts everything in the right place once you have it uploaded. But once you have that application life should be real easy on you. You might be able to get a senior at your local college to do it for a letter of recomendation.

Writing code to use Excel would cost you more than hiring a data entry person to add your products by hand. But you could have the data sucked out of Excel into a SQL file and that could be uploaded to the database with existing software.

But not by you - you'd have to hire someone. Can you? Sure, but if you have a contract with the person who wrote the site, you still have to fulfill it.

It is possible to use an Excel list to upload your products. It all depends on the e-commerce software your site is using though. Would you mind sharing this information, even a link to the site if there is anything to view?

writers' block. E com cost $. Not free. If you get the "free" version ......be afraid......HACKERS....LOL...Really. No security in those.

Your host doesn't matter! Your imagination! Know the language, know what you want? Work for it!

Seems that you didn't use an "on the fly" site. DB operated/flat file (I would not recommend this one and i use GoDaddy for allot of sites)

Importing info from MS products is common practice.

HTML...you have what you asked for....Static!

PS: Don't be fooled by the eyes!

Instead of adding one item at a time, you could use a CMS like drupal or joomla.
