Is it ok to use an swf file as a link instead of html?

Question

Basically I created a flash file and I want to show it to people and I have uploaded it to a server. I know the standard is to export an html and send people to the html link instead, but I am curious why? I would rather just send them directly to the .swf than the .html and was wondering if someone can explain why this would be a bad idea.

If I understand you correctly, you have a swf file you want to share and wonder if it's better to just send the link to that file, or if you need to have it on a web page (html).



Whether in a web page or a straight swf file the browser will read it. The only problem you MAY get is that some download managers may try to download it instead of displaying it in the browsers. In that case you may want it embedded on a page.

it not a bad idea to send swf to the users or to your friends.. but if they do not have flash player installed over their computers. . then that swf may be of no use... bcoz only flash player or browser (like ie, firefox, opera etc.) can play swf files. so its better to send the html file rather then swf...

yes u can send your swf file link...

thats has no problem at all...



well but you cannot embed it in mail bodies and all.. cos they don allow it...

but in social sites you can embed that to scraps etc...

but you need to know the correct code..

you can only see a flash file if u have flash player installed...



if not u cant..

even if u sen a swf file.. u can open with the IE

not everyone has flash player installed, so for those who dont, the SWF file is useless. when it is in HTML, people can see it or if they dont have flash player installed, it will give them a link to the download site.

Some people's computers lock up when playing flash



Create a link for both flash and "regular" and give the viewer the choice.

hi, I use iwisoft swf to video converter. It can also convert swf to images, like animated gif, gif, jpeg, png, bmp, etc. It can only convert a small PORTION of the image. hope that helps.
