I bought a laptop that originally runs Windows 8 and I really like that and don't want to change it for the entire computer, but some software I bought only runs on Windows 7.

Can I have my laptop be where one user account runs Window 7 while the rest are Window 8?

the laptop shipped with windows 8 therefore it will not be easily capable of running windows 7 due to the drivers issue

most laptop Mfg. don't supply downgrade drivers except on expensive business class models

however, you can run programs in compatibility mode

win 8 provides compatibility mode for windows versions all the way back to win 95

edit: (additional info)

you will likely have trouble locating drivers if the Mfg. doesn't provide downgrade support

win 7 drivers likely to be missing for the system :

a> SATA / AHCI

b> Touchpad (especially with Synaptics, they do not make drivers, only APIs for the Mfg to use in writing custom drivers)

c> Chipset

d> graphics controller

e> Wireless NIC

f> Wired NIC

g> card reader (if present)

h> sound

etc.

No.

All software that runs in Windows 7 will run in Windows 8 though.

Well Nice Question !

Hereby you asked about the installation of dual boot indirectly.

Well ,Let me answer as per your blind text.

Windows 7 provides infinities user to create account.

So if you installed multiple operating system in your machine You can access both os but not simultaneously.

for installation

step 1 :install windows 7 and while in partition leave the space for windows 8 installation .For example if the win8 needs 20gb space leave 100gb of memory to intstall.

step2:after installation of 7 now install 8 (note that use the partion that not used)

step3 :complete it

--now both the os installed this is said to be dual boot or multiboot.

for any doubs just mail me.

thank you.

You would have to install Windows 7 on a separate partition.
