A virtual machine runs a second operating system nested within your main one. If you are familiar with parallels or vmware fusion on the Mac or VirtualBox on Windows, these are virtual machines. Try Googling them for more information.

Well, MS Virtual PC can only be run on Windows, and can run any OS except Mac (OS it can run includes Linux, Windows 9x, or Windows 3.11). There are other virtualization softwares available, like VMWare or VMWorkstation. I'm not sure about the Mac OS, since it requires some CPU power.

not sure of linux or mac, but it was made by microsoft so it will work only with microsoft windows
