I probably organized all wrong to begin with and now I am hopelessly confused and in need of assistance to try to straighten things out. I am totally self taught and have fumbled my way around. I just got my 5th domain name from Go Daddy. My host is Pair. I have to decide what to do with this new domain...how to organize the directory, and I have never really understood the whole thing. I don't know if I want Dedicated IP Domain Hosting or Shared.

So far I have four domains, all Dedicated, and I don't think that was necessary. None of them have shopping carts, or SSL certificates or anything like that.

If the IP is shared, will the url act the same? For instance, say I have:

www.me.com
www.mysite.com
www.yoursite.com
www.oursite.com

and now the new domain is www.example.com
I don't want it to end up as www.mysite.com/example.com

So, is it still okay to choose a shared IP Domain? I know, I really need better organization and I think some of these should share a domain if I only understood it. Thank you so much!

Most Web hosts allow you to host multiple domains under a single account. If that's not the case with Pair, simply move all your sites over to GoDaddy.com and use that.

As a rule, you can use shared hosting to serve most Web sites, provided they don't do very intensive tasks -- say, editing photos, running multiple SQL queries back-to-back or processing huge text / XML files.

As you also note, shared hosting tends to be fine if you do not need an SSL certificate or hardcore server configuration specific to a domain.

UPDATE:

What they call a "shared IP domain" is what normal people, such as me, call shared Web hosting.

First of all you decide whether or not you really want one. If you decide that you do, then you should realize that it is a lot of study and work. Then, if it still sounds interesting to you, here is what I suggest. STEP ONE (1) 1..Sign up and get a free Yahoo geocities web site. 2..Go into your File Manager and start looking at all the Buttons and stuff and realize that you are going to need to know what all that stuff does. STEP TWO (2) .. (if you're still here) 3..Start learning what all that stuff does. 4..Decide whether you want to use a Template or learn the Editing Languages (html-javascript-css) to make your webpage/s. 5..Study the methods of using a Template. 6..Study the Editing Languages. 7..Study the possibility of getting someone else to do it for you. 8..Make a tentative beginning on (5), (6) if (7) didn't work. If you are still here then maybe you do have an interest in making a webpage.! If so, then you already have the easy stuff done! Congratulations!! STEP THREE (3) 9.. 1. It depends on how stable and/or secure your site needs to be as weather or not you need dedicated hosting. The company I work for has over 200 active client sites and they are all on shared servers, even the large stores. We only have one client considering dedicated because of how busy the store is and he can't handle even 10 minutes a month of downtime.

2. Depending on the size of the sites and how much space and bandwidth you use you might be able to host them all on one hosting account.

A shared hosting account is not going to cause you to have a jacked up domain name. It will be the same to the end user.

You can point more than one domain to the same hosting account. From there, you can put each site in a different folder and using .htaccess and mod-rewrite control how they look in the browser address bar.

You might want to call your current host and explain that you think you over purchased and see how they handle multiple sites on one account. Some hosts don't like users to do that, others don't mind.

Either way, they can straighten it all out for you.

You will be able to host multiple domains under the one account (most hosting companies let you). About your problem, I would say to get professional help. Running a website is not easy, let alone starting it. That's why there are so many services out there to help get people started!
