Photoshop sizes are incorrect?

I am trying to make these posters (for a class) on photoshop and I want them to be the size of standard paper (8.5x11). When I put 8.5 inches by 11 inches into 'image size' on photoshop, however, it comes out way too big. Like at 100%, the image is probably twice the size of a standard piece of paper. The image is 200ppi. Any suggestions? I need this to print correctly, and it needs to be accurate on photoshop so I can see how big the text is and stuff before it prints.

Use the rulers. When i first started to use photoshop, I didn't like it because i though that the paper sizes were incorrect. Shoe the rulers, and you will see that the paper size is in fact correct. If you know for sure that it isn't, then use the crop tool to get it the size you want. Remember that most printers will not print all the way to the edge of the page. To find out how your printer prints, print a sheet of paper with a thick border of color al around the outer most half inch. This will show you your specific printer dimensions and will help you design something that will still print nicely.

In photoshop, when each image pixel is identical to one monitor pixel, the image is at 100%. The size you see on your monitor will depend on how big a pixel is on your monitor.



Thus, 100% viewing only refers to pixel mapping on whatevever monitor you are using, not to your image DPI setting.



If you want to be able to put a ruler to the monitor and have it matche your image, you can do trial and error with a ruler, or use arithmetic using monitor size (in inches) and resolution.
