First of all, Your concept is wrong. If you start working with PHP professionally, you'll notice that a professional work in never easy as a school project is. The clients will have their weird expectations and you have to be a good artist. There is no meaning of coding if you are trying to find an easier one. Just look back to yourself and ask yourself what is your choice. You can not be a good coder, unless you can feel the satisfaction of a wonderful creation. If you can extract the fun out of them, I believe you can learn both the languages... As I did.

Nothing is difficult in the world as long as you expect ready made cakes.

Today in India only 1 in 1000 students are really have their programming skills developed.

Of course they can be many reasons.

However, in the long run I feel developing logic building abilities is more important irrespective of PHP or JAVA.

First, cross check your self what is the problem with you. Build that gap and decide.

As such it looks to me PHP is better swing.

Do read the following books from scratch and then pick-up PHP etc.

Jesus Christ! I wish people stop answering without knowing! Java is a very powerful language that allows you to build applications, NOT ONLY FOR THE WEB, but even for desktop or stand alone. It is (probably) the future kind of "C" and "C++", but even more powerful. Php is a language that has been developed from C, but oriented to WEB applications (websites). Although it has a few compilers, its initial purpose is to run on a SERVER, to supplu some HTML to a "client" (the guy who asks for a web page). So, the two are fondamentaly DIFFERENT. Knowing BOTH is a serious advantage in ANY programming profession.

The scope of a variable is the context within which it is defined. For the most part all PHP variables only have a single scope. This single scope spans included and required files as well.

Use php.net for these kind of things.

php is totally based on the c language and also java based on the concept of the c/c++ platform

php through u can develop only web based software or application or website..

but java through u develop all types of software ,mobile, window, web software.

basically u can start learning with php.it is easy and better scope .

Java and P.H.P are totally different programming languages so if you have good programming skills then go with java because java O.O.P language and used wide range. if you think java is difficult then go with java mobile devices it is good easy and inserting to learn.

Best Combination is JAVA AND DATABASE
