I know how to make a transparent image, but how do I make the top layer of a manipulation transparent?
The manipulation I am making has a horse on a poppy field (I cut and pasted the horse on to the poppy field), and I want the horse to be partly transparent. Please help!
Thanks so much for any answers :)

On the horse layer, you can either change the opacity by moving the slider lower than 100, or you can change the mode to overlay, or maybe soft light, depending on the values and colours in your image. Once you've done that you can still fiddle with the opacity to make it just right.

Fiddle around with the modes and opacity and you're sure to find one that you like! :)

Just drag the opacity slider or change the number in the box. 100 opacity means it's fully visible and 0 means it's fully transparent.

Try some of the GIMP tutorials to get acquainted with the program better.

click on the layer that the horse is in and change the "opacity" slider bar.
