Question:
I want to switch domain registrars for a domain name I don't have an active web page for?

I used to have a basic web page that I did nothing with. I took the page down and parked it with the same host. Now yahoo wants $34 annually. I would like to change registrars which most places tell how to do that. What registrar's don't say is how to switch and just park the name. That $34 is just for annual registering fees I think. I have the domain pointed to Sedo because they offer free parking with the possibility of earning from people who click on advertisers when coming to my domain.

Does the switching charge by the registrar usually include a year of just keeping or "parking" the domain name with the registrar? Who do you recommend as a cheap registrar. Remember I'm not having a web page at this time so customer service shouldn't be required. Thanks!

PS Oddly My WHOIS page says my domain "expiry date" is 5/12/2012. Back when I downgraded my web page I figured the same date too. Yahoo says my date is 10/11/2011, but says my auto renewal is 9/26/2011. Is this a way of charging people early before they realize they needed to do something? Should I contact them to rectify?

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BH web hosting which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 4 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

Hi Tom, we do not have information about the fees charged by other companies for parking or registering domains, but hopefully we can clear up the questions about billing and renewal dates. Please contact our billing department at http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/contactus

namecheap.com is good and not expensive.

Yes, transferring your domain to another registrar includes one year of registration.
