.NET is a framework. JAVA is a language.

One .NET language is C#. C# was designed specifically to attract JAVA programmers to the .NET framework.

in my opinion C# is a better language than JAVA. They are so similar but C# carries less BS than JAVA does.

Hi keyur

I thing you may suggest .NET when u are beginner

Becz the designing is easier rather u might only want to learn the coding first.

The coding will be simply like java and vb so that u can easily learn java from .NET.

regards....

.Net is a framework. There are many different kinds of .Net languages. These languages include VB.Net, Asp.Net C# etc. This is a Microsoft product and it was created for the windows operating system.

There is the mono project out right now that allows you to use the .Net framework for other operating systems like Unix etc. Most business programming is in .Net, management information systems uses this framework.

.Net is easier to learn. Java is more widely used.

Java can be used for any system. In computer science Java is the main language for the starting computer science programming classes. This language is powerful and used in jets, phones and PC software.

I would give the edge to Java.

They both have an extensive library that accomplish most tasks. I hear .NET (C#) is more light weight. Many colleges carry Java intensive courses, because many corporations use it. But, I'm sure .NET is very desirable.

I know C, php, HTML, JScript, and Java. I''ve coded Java stand alone applications and web services for a year or two now and the learning curve is not as bad as they say. There are plenty of good resources for Java, including Sun's Java API. You could practice with one and get familiar with the other.

Honestly, a good software engineer utilizes good design methods. The coding is not always important, although you must have experience.

Java

While "Java" is a Sun trademark, and only Sun can license the name "Java", numerous free software projects exist that are compatible with Sun Java. Most notably, GNU Classpath and GCJ provide a free software class library and a compiler that are partially compatible with the current version of Sun Java.[1] Sun announced in November 13, 2006 that all Java source code, excluding closed-source code for which they do not retain rights, will be released under a modified version of the GPL,[2] and released two fundamental parts of the JRE and JDK: HotSpot and the javac compiler under the GPL.[3][4]

Following their promise, Sun released the complete source code of the Class library under GPL on May 8, 2007, except some limited parts that were licensed by Sun from 3rd parties who did not want their code to be released under an open-source license[5] (see also Free Java implementations). Sun's goal is to replace the parts that remain closed with alternative implementations and make the class library completely open.

In June 2008, Red Hat announced[6] that the IcedTea project has passed the rigorous Java TCK, indicating a fully functional open-source implementation of the Java platform.

[edit] .NET

Microsoft's .NET CLI executable environment, and some of the corresponding class library, have been standardized and can be freely implemented without a license. Several standards-compliant free software environments have been implemented, such as the Mono Project and DotGNU. The Mono Project has also implemented many of Microsoft's non-standard libraries by examining Microsoft materials, similar to GNU Classpath and Java.

Microsoft is currently distributing a shared source version of its .NET runtime environment for academic use.[7]

The Mono project aims to avoid infringing on any patents or copyrights, and to the extent that they are successful, the project can be safely distributed and used under the GPL. On November 2, 2006, Microsoft and Novell announced a joint agreement whereby Microsoft promised not to sue Novell or its customers for patent infringement.[8] According to a statement on the blog of Mono project leader Miguel de Icaza, this agreement only extends to Mono for Novell developers and users.

The Microsoft/Novell agreement was criticized by some in the open source community because it violates the principles of giving equal rights to all users of a particular program (see Agreement with Microsoft and Mono and Microsoft’s patents).

In response to the Microsoft/Novell agreement the Free Software Foundation revised its GNU General Public License to close the loophole used by Microsoft and Novell to bypass the GPL's very restrictive provisions on patent deals.[9] The FSF also stated that by selling coupons for Novell's Linux software, the mechanism by which Microsoft circumvented the GNU license, it considers Microsoft to be a Linux vendor, and thereby subject to the full terms and conditions laid out in the GPL.[9] (Microsoft issued the coupons because on the patent deal worked out between the two companies Novell's network patents were considered far more profitable to Microsoft than Microsoft's .NET patents were to Novell.)

All the best !:-)

hello dear

i suggest u .net freamwork. why........let me explain

Microsoft .NET is Microsoft's new Internet strategy.

.NET was originally called NGWS.

NGWS - Next Generation Windows Services

Before the official announcement of .NET, the term NGWS was used for Microsoft's plans for producing an "Internet-based platform of Next Generation Windows Services".

Steve Ballmer quote January 2000==>>

"Delivering an Internet-based platform of Next Generation Windows Services is the top priority of our company. The breakthroughs we’re talking about here include changes to the programming model, to the user interface, to the application integration model, the file system, new XML schema....."

Microsoft. NET

The Microsoft. NET strategy was presented by Microsoft officials to the rest of the world in June 2000:

•.NET is Microsoft's new Internet and Web strategy

•.NET is NOT a new operating system

•.NET is a new Internet and Web based infrastructure

•.NET delivers software as Web Services

•.NET is a framework for universal services

•.NET is a server centric computing model

•.NET will run in any browser on any platform

•.NET is based on the newest Web standards

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

.NET Internet Standards

.NET is built on the following Internet standards:

•HTTP, the communication protocol between Internet Applications

•XML, the format for exchanging data between Internet Applications

•SOAP, the standard format for requesting Web Services

•UDDI, the standard to search and discover Web Services

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

.NET Framework

The .NET Framework is the infrastructure for the new Microsoft .NET Platform.

The .NET Framework is a common environment for building, deploying, and running Web Services and Web Applications.

The .NET Framework contains common class libraries - like ADO.NET, ASP.NET and Windows Forms - to provide advanced standard services that can be integrated into a variety of computer systems.

The .NET Framework is language neutral. Currently it supports C++, C#, Visual Basic, JScript (The Microsoft version of JavaScript) and COBOL. Third-party languages - like Eiffel, Perl, Python, Smalltalk, and others - will also be available for building future .NET Framework applications.

The new Visual Studio.NET is a common development environment for the new .NET Framework. It provides a feature-rich application execution environment, simplified development and easy integration between a number of different development languages.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Additional Information

•The .NET plan includes a new version of the Windows operating system, a new version of Office, and a variety of new development software for programmers to build Web-based applications.

•The background for .NET is part of Microsoft's new strategy to keep Windows the dominant operating system in the market, as computing begins to move away from desktop computers toward Internet enabled devices, such as hand-held computers and cell phones.

•The most visual components of the new .NET framework are the new Internet Information Server 6.0, with ASP.NET and ADO.NET support, Visual Studio.NET software tools to build Web-based software, and new XML support in the SQL Server 2000 database.

•Bill Gates is supervising the .NET project.

Actually i m programer of web. so i just tell u JAVA is GOOD one but best is .NET.

wish u happy new year

GOOD LUCK

With .NET you are betting that Microsoft will stay in business with you buying software upgrade licenses and paying for useless certification upgrades for your skills.

Don't you get it? With Microsoft, they LICENSE you to use their product and reserve the right to cancel support at any time without further notice.

Java is more better than .NET.Because of the platform indipendence, portability ,ease to code & prospect............
