Man use blender it's free and support .x format along with NURBS and a UVmapper. What is the native file format it outputs? I ask because if it can output to dbo then I know some people at http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum have made programs to convert dbo to .x .

There are others like Wings 3D and Anim8or which are free too. But I don't think they support NURBS...

Just to let you know you can find tutorials for some of these programs at http://pixel2life.com .

BTW if you decide to buy a program then Tturespace is probably your cheapest choice. It's the only program that can really rival 3D Max , Maya, Lightwave.
