Question:
How do I create my own business website? How should I start? What should I do to get better?

I have a little bit of C++ experience.

I'm wondering what languages I should learn.
What tutorials are good.
What's a good compiler to program in.

How do I upload the page(s)?
Where do I get a domain?
How do I make it secure?
Should I make my own servers or just rent space?

Hi,

The best websites today are created with CMS programs such as Wordpress. They are installed on your host which means you can work on your website from anywhere without special programming languages. The site is SEO optimized by Wordpress. You should get a web host first and the web host gives you your domain free of charge.

I help people get started with this and I dont charge, you can contact me if you want more information.

A great program to create the pages is called dreamweaver. The macromedia version is way better than the adobe one and you can probably get it cheap if not free somewhere. You have to have an FTP client to upload but some domain hosting will provide online java clients to upload. Godaddy.com provides cheap hosting with a good uploading client. Its also secure and offers shopping cart services. HTML is basic to learn but not even completely necessary with dreamweaver because you can pretty much drag and drop images and text in it. Its great for beginners but dabble in as many internet languages as you can to improve your knowledge. You can find a lot of free tools online for simple things like comments widgets and things like that. If you need any help feel free to email me at rundmcarlson@gmail.com I'd be glad to help out a new beginner.

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. A domain name is a name you want to call your website (ex: www.yahoo.com). To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BH web hosting which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

You can reach reviews about this web hosting provider and its latest DISCOUNT COUPONS at:

They also offer "Free Site Builder" that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any website creating program (WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get). You can use this service optionally. You can also create the pages offline with your favorite program (DreamWeaver, FrontPage, Microsoft Publisher, iWeb etc.), and then upload them to your web host. This is another easy way to get your website online.

I was in the same spot a few years ago. Learn Ruby or PHP, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, MySQL, and Apache. Setup a LINUX box somewhere, get a domain name form GoDaddy or something, and redirect it to your LINUX box. You can use CMS like Drupal or something, but CMSs are definitely not a developer's choice. It sounds a lot harder than it really is. Apache has a lot of good security features to poop out 'hackers', Ruby is the new favorite for web developers, but I prefer PHP for now, the documentation is awesome and it is more readable for me (came from C/C++ also). Hope this helps.

it really depends what you are planning to achieve with your business website.

for example, if you are doing something like this, (www.luckyappliances.com) you really have no need to learn any language (at least in the beginning). You get your site hosted with yahoo, and use their website builder (yahoo site-builder). Add the features with couple of soft-wares and get your site going. Than you can make expansion plan of your site and simultaneously learn the various technical aspects of the website building.
