I've been working with java and I know I will be learning new languages in the future. I've watched people make similar small programs that I make in java with VB in way less time. It seems like this would be a better option working with an SQL database over the internet than java. I've also watched some C# videos, and I've noticed some similarities. Can you help me decide what I should learn next? What are some pros and cons? If you have used both, why would you use one over the other in a situation? Please help! Thanx in advance.

C# is same as vb.net except that vb.net is easier for gui programs, while c# is closer to c and c++ and java, while vb.net is more like english essays.

both are not recommended because they depend on .net libraries, therefore i recommend c, java or c++ which whom never depend on any libraries except direct x for game development.

but for your question, use vb.net if you're getting paid for the job, and use c# if you're getting paid for the hour, note that c# is used in more areas such as game development and scripting while vb.net doesn't.

Both VB and C# now pretty much have equal functionality so its more dependent on your choice of syntax. What you can do in one, can be done in the other now and Microsoft plans to develop both VB.NET and C# equally.

C# is a C-style language, similar to java so would probably be a lot easier to go into for you.

If you have worked on Java then C# would be easier to learn as the syntax are some what similar. I found C# to be better than VB.net because I feel that C# supports more features than VB.net. I might be wrong. Also, I feel that availability of C# source code samples are more than VB.net on the internet.

c# is better than VB because C# is fully object oriented and Visual studio makes it easier to design GUI and programming.
