can you help me get a web host and get started with wordpress.org?

Hi
I want to get my blog started with wordpress.org, but I'm totally stupid with it!
Firstly I need a webhost, no problem, but where do I look? I've already got a domain name with ukreg should I use them as a web host? Can I use any web host with wordpress, as it does suggest using some that I guess they are affliliated with, but they are all American...
By the way this is wordpress.org, not wordpress.com.
