Question:
How do I create a FTP directory folder and file to publish my site to?

Hello,

I'm a bit stuck right now with my site. I've been uploading to the domain through SiteSpinner's FTP client. SiteSpinner is the website designer I use. I published the site to a index.html file in a directory folder which I accidentally deleted and now I don't know how to publish my site. I just need to get the index.html folder back inside a directory that I can publish through SiteSpinner’s FTP Client. I’ve tried other FTP clients to upload my sites files through, but of course, I am having the same problem with them too. Appearently you can't just create a directory folder and publish it inside that, instead you need a pre-existing index.html file or something like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Mike

If you recently deleted the directory on your hard drive, simply go to your recycle bin and restore it. In the future, try using a different FTP client - Auto FTP Manager is perfect - it automatically uploads your website files, to your server. This may avoid the problem in the future of manually loading and deleting files. Download here: http://www.deskshare.com/ftp-client.aspx

You don't publish "to" an index.html page. What you need to do is find your root directory. This is where your files live, to be seen on the web. You deleted your index file, but if you have a copy on your harddrive you'll be fine.

Usually it's a folder called public_html - but your host may be different. You need to contact your host and find out exactly where your root directory is. If you deleted that, they can fix it for you.

It would be located on the server where you have web space. index.html is always the first page of any web site. From it you call the other bits for the website. So what you need to know is the numerical location of your web site, that's where you FTP your files to.

It relies upon on what type of server you're using. Linux or residing house windows, alongside with even if you your self are information superhighway hosting the region or if you're paying a third celebration to host it.
