?

I don't know anything about programming, coding etc etc. But i do have some really good ideas. Like creating an app that millions of people could use...

I would like to hire some programmers and let them create a particular application. I'll pay them for the hours they've put in and it's progress.

My question is, is it possible to do something like this? i mean wouldn't there be like copyrights on some coding styles etc etc?

As long as you have the money, you can hire a programmer to create any app you want.

There is an exception in copyright law called "work for hire." The copyright on a work created by an employee in the course of his or her employment belongs to the employer.

A wise course of action would be to draw up an employment contract that any programmer would be required to sign before he or she can work for you. The contract would explicitly spell out the fact that you own the copyright to any code and design style that he or she creates. Talk to a lawyer about how to write an employment contract. It takes some time and money to do, but it can potentially save you from some headaches down the road.

The main things you need to do are to (1) create a clear and detailed design specification that a programmer can easily follow, (2) formulate a contract for your programming job, and (3) find a programmer. Here are some possible places where you could advertise your job opportunity:

You can certainly hire "independent contractors", which is fairly standard in startup programming. Absent a properly written and signed agreement for a qualifying type of work, calling it a "work made for hire", the copyright would be owned by the programmers. If you hired people as your employees (i.e., W-2 tax status, etc), you (as the employer) would be the legal author and own the copyrights of anything they produce for you. Many startups use some form of non-complete, non-disclosure and assignment-of-rights agreement in exchange for an offer of employment/contractor and possible stock options...

Yes this is often referred to as out sourcing. You can pick up programmers from all around the world. I would figure out what kind of programmers you need and an idea of how big of job it will be. There are website like Hacker Rank where you can even browser for programmers by expertise and experience.

unless you have $50,000 up front, you have no chance of hiring anyone
