i want to make a website for a little business project but i dont want it to be hosted by anyone. i just want mysitename.com (not the real name) and i want to build it for free. i dont understand why i would have to pay for a domain name or to make my website. unless the only way to do it would be to make it on notepad using a coding language.

You certainly can build your own web site, and host it yourself. HOWEVER, if you don't buy a domain, then your website would just be an ip address to the computer where you have the site. But you're still going to want to have a static ip address from your ISP, or else any bookmarks your users make will not work when your ip address changes.

The advantage of buying a domain, which is very inexpensive, is that your users never have to change anything to get to your site, even if you change hosts. There may be some delay between when DNS registration is updated, but that's usually no more than 24 hours.

The advantage of having someone else host your site is that you don't have to deal with security and making sure you have all the latest fixes and patches on your server. If you host your own site, then you need to deal with all of that stuff.

All that being said, you can install Apache server on your computer for free. And you can install PHP and MySql, and other software for free. You just have to learn how to install, configure, and administer those programs.

One last thing to consider. If you are going to host your own site, you should have a dedicated server which is not networked with your home or office computers. Otherwise your whole network will be vulnerable to cyber attacks.

In another of your questions, you state, "i am trying to save up money for a $600 laptop. all the job offers are you have to be 15 years of age or older!! i'm only 13! does anyone have some good and fast ways to earn money?" So, how can you now claim to be "a trained vet that has been studying for about 5-6 years"? Do you know that it is illegal to impersonate a veterinarian, and that you can be charged with fraud and misreprestation for offering medical advice while presenting yourself as a veterinarian? And if you ever plan on really becoming a veterinarian, something like this in your background will eliminate any possibility of you getting your license. Please rethink your website, and stop impersonating a veterinarian on this website.

I know how to make a website, and host it myself.

All .com domain names must be paid, for. .com domain names are not free. You can build your website, for free, and you can get a free domain name, but you can't get a .com domain name, for free.

You don't have to pay to make your website. Your right! If you use Notepad, and a coding language, then you can make a free website.

I had a difficult time learning how to host my website, and it's not easy. I used a lot of my time to learn how to make, and host my website.

Ryan, what happens is that some people complain when something goes wrong with their website. People can easily make a mistake, and then something awful happens to their website.

If you don't have a strong background with computers, then you might regret making, and hosting a website yourself.

You would have to make sure nothing is wrong with your website, and how you host your website. Because if something is wrong, then someone else might be able to cause problems, for you, or maybe your website might no longer be on the Internet.

If you really want to make a website your going to have to buy the domain and such and your also going to have to learn some programming language's like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, Python, PHP etc so unless your dedicated and you believe the website your trying to make is worth the time, effort, and money then I suggest you either give up or pay someone to design the website for you but more than likely you not being the techy type your gonna get ripped off and pay a lot more than you should. And I listed some general stuff, there's more stuff you'll need to know.

Creating a web site is fairly easy. Start out with an open source "template". Open source web design is a good site to pick up a design that you like. You then need an app(program) to work with the files. Bluefish editor is a good open source editor that is fairly easy to use. Just open the HTML and CSS files with your editor. H3 schools has free tutorials on every aspect of how to re-write these two files to your taste. With a little playing around, I'm sure that you will come up with something. Hosting is another matter altogether. The easiest thing that I can tell you on that subject is to just buy your domain name and have it hosted somewhere. This keeps your web site online for the duration of the contract IE; usually 1 to 3 years. If you insist on trying to host your own, then you will need a dedicated server and a static IP line. The dedicated server must be on and powered up 24/7/365 for your site to stay active. I won't even try to explain the difficulty level of building and maintaining your own server.

If you have designed a website, you can host over a LAN only, so it is only accessible by people on the same network and who have the IP address of it. This will be more secure for your little business project. I use Windows Server 2012 and run it on a virtual machine.

There are several ways, first you need a name or "domain name" which has to be registered, then you have to decide on the content of you site. There are several tools you can you use, you can pay someone to build and maintain it or you can get free sites, but be prepared for a lot of adds on free sites. personally I would pick a mid range and use them save the hassle as if your running it as a business it is a tax deduction. I bought my Domain Name, but you can lease or rent names from various companies?

If you want your own com domain, you'll have to pay. They simply aren't free and that's that.

If you want to keep things as libertarian as possible:

-get a free .tk domain from here: http://www.dot.tk/en/index.html?lang=en

-get a Raspberry Pi or similar $50 computer, and set it up as a web server (it'll be running 24/7)

-if you don't have a static IP, sign up for a free http://noip.com account

-in your router, enter the noip.com details in the DynDNS settings, then forward HTTP/port 80 to your Raspberry PI

-finally, redirect the .tk domain to your noip.com subdomain

If you want it to be on the internet, sorry, but you need to pay for the domain and hosting.

If you want it to be available on your computer network ONLY, you don't need to buy a domain and hosting.
