I'm designing a website so what would be the safest font for me to use? Which one is found on almost all computers (mac/windows/linux) and is supported by all browsers?

Like Daivd said, there isn't one font. There are certain fonts that are considered safe to use, and if a computer doesn't have it, it automatically uses the "backup font" (you can specify a backup or just let it go to the default)

Here are some good articles on picking fonts for the web:

Note: Some people think using Times New Roman is bad and shows you don't know anything about web-design. I, on the other hand, love TNR. So just remember you can do whatever you want on your site, you don't always have to follow the rules.

there are hundreds of Sans Serif fonts, human beings!! it is demanding to point something because of the fact we don't understand what variety of journey this is and in spite of in case you're able to funds to purchase something new. for occasion, if it is inviting human beings to a technology journey, Gill Sans is a robust option. Futura is a fashionable-finding font perfect for something from company activities to events. Optima is an extremely stylish font in spite of the incontrovertible fact that some might argue it is not one hundred% 'sans' serif! Lucida Grande is comparable with much less of a splash of a serif. Geneva is extremely solid (and you will already have it in case you have a Mac)

There is no font that is found on all computers.

You just have to pick groups of similar fonts and hope that users have one of them.

http://www.ampsoft.net/webdesign-l/WindowsMacFonts.html has a list of collections of common fonts.

The best one is Verdana. U can also try lucida sans unicode. I am not sure if mac supports it, but it does support lucida sans grande. So give a fall back from lucida sans unicode to lucida sans grande to verdana. So in all machines 1st lucida sans unicode is tried. In case its not supported, the browser tries lucida sans grande(mac). In a rare case if even this is not supported verdana is chosen by the browser.

You can give a fall back like this :

lucida sans unicode, lucida sans grande, verdana
