You don't need to bother that much. Here are some tips :

When you're prompted to enter your filename, just add the extension; example : 1234.png

And here's something else. Open My computer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab and Uncheck the "Hide extensions for known file types" options.

Doing so, you'll see the extensions to all your files, and if you want to rename one of them, you have full control over the file name and the file extension, so you could easily change 1234.PNG to 1234.png.

Hope this helps.

I am assuming your using XP from what you have described. If i'm wrong, sorry.

Unfortunately, old versions of Paint bundled with XP does not automatically save files with lowercase extensions. When you select the PNG option, you will have to manually change from PNG to png

The Windows Vista Paint, however, saves as .png by default now. Maybe you can try to see if you can get a Vista version of paint, but I'm not sure if it will work in XP.

What to do? Get a better graphics editing program. Try the free GIMP. If Paint is enough for you, GIMP should be more than enough.

Very purely, purely click on report, shop As and alter the report style by way of clicking on downward arrow at factor of report style field, to png. Or, you do no longer even ought to open it, purely precise click on the report icon, right down to rename and alter the .bmp to .png.
