I want to make a website where I can post my video projects, blog, etc..
I finished building the template on photoshop and dreamweaver but I have no idea how to publish it in the web! I know i need a domain name, and godaddy seems to be a good way to buy one, but I'm not sure how to update my site. For example, if I want to upload a new video along with a description, do I have to go on dreamweaver and add it, or can I just do it through my hosting site (like godaddy)?
Thanks for the help!

Basically you have to buy your domain name first. I would go with godaddy.com or namecheap.com for that. They you need to find a host for your site. I wouldnt host it with either godaddy or namecheap. They are great for cheap domain names but they suck as a host, unless you want to be stuck with downtime and customer service that doesnt speak english.

Buy your domain and then host your site with someone like dreamhost or hostgator. Both will let you transfer your domain name from wherever you bought it from, to them for free. They both have videos on their site that walk you through the whole process.

Then you have to publish your site to you host. Thats pretty much the shortened version. If you want a step by step heres the article I followed when setting up my website recently:

Good luck getting your site online!

You need both a domain name (like yourwebsite.com) and hosting (an actual place where you're gonna upload the website, you can't upload anything to a domain name, since it's just an address).

Godaddy is the biggest domain name registrar, but there are some better (and cheaper) hosting offers like one of these: http://www.tophostingpicks.com

iPage has the best offer right now.

Their standard price is $84/year ($6.95) but they have

a 50% sale, one year of hosting for $42.00.

Their plan includes:

Unlimited disk space

Unlimited bandwidth

Free domain name

Price: $42/year ($3.50)

They have one of the most popular hosting platforms, which currently hosts over a million websites. They're also one of the oldest hosting companies, founded in 1998.

My personal favorite for posting/updating my website is through tcp/ip using a program like Putty. This allows you see what files are on the external site after connecting through the TCP/IP protocols. The ip or address that you would connect the TCP/IP would be listed on godaddy's information part of the site after you've purchased your hosting. Please note that not all sites allow this method of updating and you would need to check to make sure that where ever you host that they offer the method of how you want to update.
