Question:
How are they finding out it's me on the forums?

I'm trying to rejoin a forum that I was banned from a few years back, when I was younger, immature, and stupid. I figured it wouldn't be a problem as long as I change my screen name and abide by all the rules, but as soon as I post I always get banned. It hasn't even been anything offensive... it's just normal stuff. They must have a way to find out it's me. How is that possible when IP addresses are always changing?

Have you changed your ISP? Have you changed your computer? Have you changed your email address? A lot more than IP addresses is logged to block anyone. Also your style may be reminding the admin of you. Or what you are posting is actually offensive and you don't know the difference.

Some methods include:

Browser fingerprinting - if you're fingerprint is unique amongst site visitors, reading information on your computer using javascript, blocking a range of ip addresses based on geographic location if you're the only user amongst site visitors in the area where your ip address traces back to. Then if they're really sneaky they can silently dial up your computer without you knowing to obtain certain information (if you have certain popular software installed). I'm not going to mention the name of the software for obvious reasons.

IP addresses aren't always changing by default. Some IPs are dynamic(changing) and some are static(staying the same). Maybe yours is static?

Use a different email address? Wouldn't screen name just change your username?
