There has been speculation that Oracle will pick up the ball and start producing a runtime like they do on Windows. There is no way to know and I check for news everyday about the latest developments and everyone has been quiet since the initial deprecation announcement.
As for the comment about getting locked into a single-source platform, not only is that irrelevant and unhelpful, but in case you haven't noticed, all operating systems have the same problem: even Linux.
