OK, there are 1024 KiB in a MiB.

In turn, there are 1024 bytes in a KiB.

So in a MiB there are

1024*1024 = 1,048,576 bytes.

There are 1000 KB in a MB.

In turn, there are 1000 bytes in a KB

So in a MB there are

1000*1000 = 1,000,000 bytes.

To convert from MiB to MB, multiply by 1.048576.

To convert from MB to MiB, divide by 1.048576.

Or just use 1.05, as that's close enough, really.

If you want to convert between GiB and GB, use 1.073741824, or just 1.07.

For example, if you buy a new 500 GB hard drive, you only get about 465 GiB.

It just means that they're different names for almost the same thing...

1 MiB = 220 bytes = 1,048,576 bytes = 1,024 kibibytes

We call a Megabyte 1,000,000 (1 million) bytes when it's actually 1,048,576 bytes. So who cares about the other 48,000? Evidently someone does so they call the real Megabyte (the bigger one) a Megabibyte.

Megabibyte = 48,576 more bytes than a Megabyte

Megabyte = 48,576 less bytes than a megabibyte....

This holds for the Kilas, Gigas, Shmigas, Beegas,

Who-the-hell-cares-gas and all the rest........:-)

there are 1024 bytes in a kilobyte and 1024 kilobyts in a megabyte, so there are 1048576 bytes in a megabyte.
