What web host should I use for building a website. There a number of hosting companies with a wide price range, Yahoo is one of them, but DreamHost, BlueHost are less expensive,

I'd like to know what are the cons of using one of the least expensive ones.

You can take a look on what others think about their website's web host over at http://WebHostingRatings.org/ Personally, I have a wonderful experience with HostGator ans Lunarpages.

There indeed are hundreds of web hosting companies out there. Needless to say you will get what you pay for. That doesn't always mean that the most expensive solutions will be the best (though they seldom aren't) but the cheapest definitely give you bad customer support. And the couple extra dollars a month are more than worth the pain it will save you with bad hosts.

Yahoo is expensive, so I'll leave that out. Out dreamhost and bluehost, dreamhost is better. Their service and uptime is better (you can call them very good) and bluehost isn't bad either (call them good). Stay away from the $3.xx/month companies. I won't name them but you'll know them.. they are all over the place.

You can find a few more reliable web hosts (very good to excellent ones) from the list here:

http://hosting4beginners.webnode.com/list-of-great-web-hosts/

In that list, Arvix is very good. Inmotion (business - I think around 5.95$/mo, dont go for the personal plans) is great too. Check them out. But remember never to sign up for more than an year with ANY host.

Good luck!

There are so many cheap hosting services out there vying for your business that you should do a few comparisons and try to be objective when you finally decide. So-called "free" hosting always comes with things you don't want, such as annoying advertising on your site, or a lack of features and options. And the so-called "unlimited" are always limited, just in a different way. Hit the limit and they will throttle your speed back or cut you off at the knees real quick.

The most important thing to look for is good service... competent technicians who can hone in on any problem when you raise a help desk call and get it fixed for you fast. That's what matters. There is not much point in saving a couple of bucks a month if the tech support sucks.

I have quite a few websites out there. Some run on Wordpress and others are pure html (created with DreamWeaver or XSitePro). There are free html programs out there as well. And I do all of my hosting right now with Hostgator. Their pricing is reasonable, but not the lowest... and their tech support is excellent. They know what they're doing and they do it well.

Do your homework, then make your own choice!

Hi,

There are no cons for using the least expensive ones if you're using BlueHost. They're only $3.95 a year and they have everything that a small website owner like me and you would want. Here is a link to a website with some great reviews of almost all the top webhosts out there. I hope it helps you out in making your decision. The reviews are collected from different sites which are mentioned in the reviews so you dont have to visit different review sites for an answer.

I use BlueHost and have been quite happy with them. The tools they have available are what really sold me. They also deduct web hosting fees automatically when they are due, which is really convenient. Their communication concerning hosting issues, upgrades and new features is also really helpful.
