I'm a 3d artist who has been playing around with a few programming languages and gaming engines. I'm thinking that I would like to start working on a simple little game for the fun of it, and maybe have something to put up on steam if I can actually pull it off.

I've been mostly learning actionscript 3 and playing with 2d graphics in flash, making little guys kill each other with realllllllly basic ai, but there is one thing about the whole game making process that I just do not understand. That one thing is online compatibility. How are games made to be online? I mean like... either how to set up a server for people to join my game via server address like minecraft servers, or have people able to set up hamachi or tunngle servers to play online with friends?

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that making games multiplayer via the internet is going to be quite difficult, am I right?

I'm planning on making this game using flash. as3 has been a really simple language to learn so far, and I'm pretty sure I can make something with it but I want to know what I need for a multiplayer game before I start trying to make it.

Before you start you need to learn html, php, the mysql database and probably javascript. Until you have those to a high level and particularly the security issues with having users enter data (just a user name or password can be filled with a script to hack the server), do not consider an online game. It could be running a background bank phishing scam relay or child porn distribution site within a day if you get that wrong.

the solid previous fashione d"throwing stick" works great, basically come across a branch or root that has a greater end to it, carve the different end to in effective condition your hand and prepare with it. A "bola" additionally works nicely with prepare. basically use 3 products of cordage or rope approximately 3' long. Tie one end of all 3 jointly. next, on the top of each and every twine, tie a rock weighing around an oz. or 2. i've got accomplished each and every thing from utilising yet another rock to chip a slender band around an rectangular rock to the twine continues to be tied in place, to putting the rock in a bag or animal pores and skin and tie that to the twine. carry close the top of the cords it somewhat is tied jointly, twirl it over you head and launch it contained in the direction of the animal. It spreads open and entangles the legs or stuns/kills the animal if the weights hit it. an hassle-free snare works alright, you will come across diagrams on line actual or %. up a e book on outdoors survival skills. a hand-crafted bow works in case you have get right of entry to to the right kinds of timber, like ash or yew as an occasion. solid success

there are flash games that have persistent worlds. I think that figuring out how to make a persistent world- keeping track of variables and stuff in the background- is the obstacle you need to overcome.

Flash is NOT meant for multiplayer on a network. You need to install a plugin like Player.IO. Note that it is NOT free.
