Sharepoint comes in many flavors, I suppose you mean the free version that comes with Windows Server? That would be Sharepoint Service 3.0 as opposed to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.

Sharepoint is a platform for hosting and managing data. From your document library to your website and newsgroups. The great thing about SharePoint is that you can download 40 free application templates that includes amongst other things a Knowledge Base.

SharePoint capabilities as a knowledge base are relatively extensive. Essentially the knowledge base is a list that gathers a variety of information in columns such as problem description, solution description, related solutions, etc. You can also attach workflows to the KB article that will send approval/denial requests to managers, inform employees via email, and much more. Your KB articles can have images, dates/time, edit capabilities and all the basics. Building this KB out you can do a lot more. These are capabilities of MOSS, with SharePoint services 3.0 you will not have all the bells and whistles but it should get the job done.

It's an exceptionally decent question. A debt of gratitude is in order for the asking this. MS remain for Microsoft so it's Microsoft SharePoint. Presently I might want to let you know that MS SharePoint is Share + Point. It's a blend stage for Enterprise and the Web. In another word we can state that SharePoint is a cooperation administration stage of program, report, CMS Content Management System. As per Wikipedia "SharePoint is an electronic application that incorporates with Microsoft Office." MS SharePoint consultant will help more to coordinate MS SharePoint. Truth be told, he will demonstrate to you how it's valuable in venture.

SharePoint is an enterprise information portal, from Microsoft, that can be configured to run Intranet, Extranet and Internet sites. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 allows people, teams and expertise to connect and collaborate. A SharePoint enterprise portal is composed of both SharePoint Portal and Windows SharePoint Services, with SharePoint being built upon WSS.
