UI design relates to the usability of the web site or operating system where as web design just relates to designing a web site regardless of how usable it actually is.

Web Design means designing the website from its looks to its functioning.

UI design for website, though in theory is pretty much the same , in practical use, it is a bit different. UI generally means the front-end applications of that website...say you create a draggable form widget in your web-page, then that will be termed as UI design. So, you can say, UI is the Interactive front-end of a website.

User interface design or user interface engineering is the design of computers, appliances, machines, mobile communication devices, software applications, and websites with the focus on the user's experience and interaction.

User Interface design is involved in a wide range of projects from computer systems, to cars, to commercial planes; all of these projects involve much of the same basic human interaction yet also require some unique skills and knowledge. As a result, user interface designers tend to specialize in certain types of projects and have skills centered around their expertise, whether that be software design, user research, web design, or industrial design.

so web design is also an UI design when it comes into website.

UI stands for user user interface, Even a web site is having Use interface dear. If you are talking abt GUI programs like desktop application then there is some difference between both of them. To understand relation between UI and web just try to understand yahoo messenger. A messenger is UI program which works on internet. But its not a web site

UI (user interface) can deal with a lot of stuff such as the user interface for car navigation system or your television menu.

'Web design' just happens to be the term used to describe the 'designing of interfaces for the World Wide Web'...which in layman terms are web pages.

Also, web design is a form of UI design, but UI design doesn't specifically mean you're creating web pages.

Web design is just straight design of website, UI (User Interface) is the act of designing the interactions a user has with any sort of interface. It is more than just visual design, it is also the intuitive-ness of the interface and how easy it is to understand and navigate.
