I'm wanting to get a version of Ubuntu to use as a media mixer. If i'm correct, 11.04 its a LTS version. What do you suggest I use for web browsing, audio making (MIDI stuff and prerecorded stuff, and just desktop use?
Four answers:
Linux Mint 11

Ubuntu is just about the worst Linux distro. available these days. Canonical who produce Ubuntu have become arrogant and ignored users needs however well voiced across the many Forums that make reference to Ubuntu. For example Ubuntu 11.10 doesn't offer the classic GNOME Desktop and it doesn't include the Synaptic Package Manager despite the fact many users did not want these changes. I used to have much time for Ubuntu starting with Ubuntu 6.10 finishing with the last decent release which was Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

Debian based distros. are the way forward and Linux Mint is the first of the mainstream distros. moving towards not using Ubuntu repository

I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint Debian Edition Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled.

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint Debian Edition then you need to create a Bootable LiveDVD

Linux Mint Debian Edition can also be run straight from the LiveDVD from Boot without touching your Hard Drive

The newest of course due to the smoother look and the altering that appeared in the newer version. Why would you choose the older version anyways.

It's almost the same. 11.10 is newer and in theory less stable. Ubuntu is constantly being updated and almost always for the better, which is why I would and do use 11.10.
