You can. Just check the template site at MS Office.com

The difficulty will be with the printer. If you want to use card style papers, you will need a printer like a Canon, with a Straight path. Some HPs have a kind of curly path so it affects the End result.

Microsoft Word allows you to create interesting graphics using the built-in drawing tools (see link). Word also allows you to copy/paste graphics onto the page. For complex graphics, you might want to using a drawing program (like Paint) or even Microsoft Visio. In Microsoft Word, graphics can be re-sized and repositioned on the page.

You can adjust the page size and the margins. Many printers have a minimum margin of about .25 inches however. An alternative is to print to a standard 8.5" X 11" stock and then carefully cut the card out of the page.

I'd experiment with Word and other applications. There is also a lot to be said for creating simple cards by hand. For ideas about simple graphics and home made post cards, check out the following book: Postcards from Vermont (Tucker Nichols).
