Question:
How to fix computer error: Invalid Floating Point Operation?
?

The specific error message was:
SetRes 2.4.0.0
Invalid floating point operation.

and the system freezes. The reset lead to an unending cycle of reboots.

I have a Compaq Presario SR1620NX Desktop.

I asked Future Shop to check it out and they gave me the System Recovery Discs. I followed the instructions given but it still won't respond and continues asking me to restore.

Please help, any additional information is appreciated.

thankyou.

Looking up SetRes it appears to be a separate tool that perhaps you can uninstall it. But you've got to be able to get to your system.

Unfortunately since your system failed in the recovery you may be stuck at this point. I would go back to Future Shop and tell them what happend when you tried their instructions. To me it was stupid for them to suggest you do a recovery w/o fixing the problem - typical sloppy support response (reinstall, reboot, and it'll be fixed).

I just had one thought - does the recovery disk provide a command line mode? If it does use that to access your hard drive.

If you can do that search for setres*.* - rename (don't delete) the folder where it is contained and see if that get's you past the problem getting recovery to run.

the first thing in these problems is depends on some softwares that you installed in your pc.its better to: 1.reboot ur system then

2.Press the F8 key repeatedly when the first screen appears.

3.From the Windows Advanced Options Menu, select Safe Mode and press ENTERWhen the Windows XP desktop appears, Safe Mode is displayed in the four corners of the screen and the desktop will probably look much worse due to the reduced colors.

4.Click Administrator and enter the password (if applicable).

Then go to mycomputers and click on add/remove softwares then unistall the last softwares that u installed.i mean the softwares that you start having this problem after installing them.then restart and see the result if u still have problem,

it might be sth on registry or a virus.
