I am right now at the moment a sophomore in high school with a 4.0 GPA so far this year and a 4.1 last year. I started using computers when I was three and built my first at 13. My first language was XHTML (easiest in the world lol) and then I moved on to Visual Basic this year through school and Python in my free time. I was using Visual basic in school and after being spoiled with the autocomplete I know find using Eclipse to write Android apps impossible so I basically put it off to the side for another day. I have also dipped my toes in Visual C# since its so close to VB but the annoying part is the stupid extra syntax lol...(Also done scripting in CMD and Ubuntu terminal but not really programming)

Now onto the question: What languages do you believe a college freshman who plans to major in computer science should know before going to college? What languages do you believe are the foundation that every programmer should know before they can even be considered a programmer.

C, C++, and C# (since you're using Windows).

Don't use Visual Basic, it has the worst syntax in the world. The "stupid extra syntax" is the most popular syntax of all (C) and you will use it a lot in the future.

You will never go back to VB anyway one you know C#.

I was in your position once, I did VB and found C# difficult, but now I can't bare looking at VB code because it has the stupidest syntax I've ever seen.
