Do you ever use your numeric keypad?

Question

I need a new laptop and can't decide whether to get one with or without the numeric keypad. If you have one do you ever use it? Do you like it or does it get in your way? What do you use it for?.What are the advantages of having one?

There are many advantages to the numeric keypad, but only if you truly need it. Most laptops comes with an integrated keypad, you only have to press Fn (function) to access it, it's like shift, but for the keypad! You can also buy (15$) an USB keypad if you really need it. It depends on your work, I find myself always using it, but I always have the calculator open, if you merely browse the net and watch videos, you don't really need one (and there is one with most laptops anyway's, go to the store and check it out!)

If you crunch #'s a lot it is great to have which I do working from home. I couldn't live without mine off to the side.



The inventor of the numeric keypad found it a little easier to enter numbers from a numeric keypad, can't think of any other advantage :-)

Years ago, I used a keypad editor on DEC RSX and VMS - the special keys for delete word, insert etc. were all on the keypad. So I used it all the time. But since then, no - I always use numbers from the top row..

It's good for data entry - for for those people who used to do data entry that like to use the number key. If you have not ever used them, and don't plan on entering a lot of number data, then I wouldn't worry about not having them. If the time ever comes that you want one, they make USB number only keyboards that you could add to your laptop.

Hey, My laptop doesnt have it and I didnt even notice it. Its a waaste of space - the numbers are already on the laptop you dont need them twice. Plus its practical because it takes up less space, looks better and your brain is already trained to hit the numbers from above. Get one without definately.

I am using Sony Vaio VPCEB23FM. Here is numeric key is right side. It is very helpful for me to write quickly. I like it very mnuch

Honistly it depends what you use your website for, if you use it for entering data, like numbers into forms, get it its useful for that



But if your not using it for that, get one with the number above the letters insted, it saves space so your keybord is less cramped
