My friend brought me a graph paper with a bathroom drawn on it. He is re-doing a bathroom and wants to plan it out. He said he wants it to "scale". What exactly does that mean? How would I even start. It does contain measurements for various things.

to scale means he wants to be able to measure and see exactly how things should fit.
so for example, if you measure one foot on the floor the paper may need to measure one inch.
this is called 1 foot to 1 inch scale or often referred to at 12:1 scale. Meaning for every REAL 12 inches the paper will show 1 inch.
You can set your visio in a new document to scale by specifying the scale you wish to use for the grid. Under options set the grid to on and then set the grid to one inch squares.
When you draw the room, you should have the interior or exterior dimensions available to give you the overall dimensions and begin there. setting the scale will allow your Doors and toilet and tub properties to fit yoru Drawing scale.
Below is a link to free online visio training from Microsoft.
Good luck.

MY opinion is to sit your kid down and talk to him, tell him that your in NO way shape or form trying to not accept him, it's just you need time to adjust. Tell him that if its his "friend"( and i'm imagining that you're talking about his bf) then why don't you just have him slowly become acquainted with you and your family (dinners here, a ride there etc.) Then after a while, but not that long, let him come and spend the night. If he gets angry tell him that you love him unconditionally, but don't feel guilty because you're not letting his "friend" spend the night, you are the mom, YOU are in control. ( I also think you should talk to your son about safe sex, if you're concerned, try calling a local Planned Parenthood). The truth is that your child just like every other child can be having sex, and just because you don't let his "friend" sleep over doesn't mean you're preventing it. He feels comfortable letting you in and telling you he's gay, be happy that you could raised a kid so honest, and that you have a good relationship. Help him find his way in this chaotic world and tell him that it's fine to be gay. Maybe if you have a gay coworker or friend that could give him guidance, it might make it a little easier on you. I think it's amazing that you have such a close relationship with your son, especially considering his age, and only wish that I could be just as open with my mom and my sexuality.GOOD LUCK and I'm sure you'll make the right choice!

Well, drawn to scale means that everything is the correct size as it would be in real life, but a certain "Scale" smaller.
For example, if I were to draw a Bath that was 2 metres long in real life, and I was drawing it on a 1/100 scale, I'd draw it 100 times smaller, exactly. (Which would be 2cm, but hey. :P)
Hope that helped.

To scale means he wants things measured out correctly. It doesn't mean you need to tape all the graph paper together until it's as large as his bathroom, though.
For instance, most maps are "to scale". If you look at the miles/kilometers at the bottom, the length of that line = so many miles/kilometers.
You can do the same thing with the graph paper. So many cubic squares = so many feet of the bathroom.
You'll have to take very accurate measurements and use some conversions.

Definition of Scale Drawing - "Depiction of an object in which its dimensions (and those of its elements) are proportional to the actual dimensions in a predetermined ratio."
Basically your friend wants you to keep your drawing in proportion to his real bathroom.

It means 1cm on the graph might represent 1m on the full plan. So you have to make sure you draw it out with all the correct measurements.

like say that 1 in. on that paper would be 3 ft. in real life
