Is this a good practice to use first letter of few words and combine them to form a domain name ? Like SAP, uses "systems, applications and products"

How good is this, will I still get traffic from users out of any search engine ?

Yeah, that's fine, as long as you metatag it correctly.

All of the few letter domains are already registered, so you'll need to buy it of of the current owner (auction) Which is usually very expensive.

Now that kind of domain name will not aid in search engine results, but it also doesn't hurt your rankings. You'll have to rely soly on your SEO (embedding keywords in your site)

As long as you carry out effective SEO on your site then you will probably be fine. The jury is out in our household on the weight that domain names have on search engine results. You dont want it so long that people cant be bothered to type it it. You dont want it stuffed with keywords so that it doesnt read properly. Lots of pitfalls but in my opinion good SEO will be the key to your success.
