2011-09-15 21:14:47 UTC
Ok... I want to learn a new programing lanquige, and want it to be powerful. HEre are the guidelines:C++ is my native languige and I dont want to learn something too similer; I cant get lava to work (yes lava not java); no on java ,I don't want to deal with bytecode; asembly languige I half understand and dont want to learn it again; macine languige, der nobody understans/knows how to use it; perl is out I don't want something to use itself to run a program; ruby out same as perl; python is a mabey if you can come up with a good reason Im no too object orented; I don't want javascript or cold fustion, not a web developer; prosses is also out; ok a simple check list of needed features is here:
Powerful; can manipulate numbers easy and has strings;
Powerful2: can use the actul pices of a computer like eject a disk tray use unternal speker ect;
Powerful3: can blast through multi program communicaton/compatibility isssues;
Powerful4:Smart and small like smalltalk (I don't want to use small talk)
Doen't cost money
Portable
Can make a CUI(console application .exe .com I dont care)
Works on windows
Not too big (like populare big) that too much crap come up but not too small to where I cant get help
Has a trutorial.
Made after 1987 (optional)

If that's the best you can do on an iPod, throw it away. It's not a very effective communication tool. That was painful to read.

C#.

Doesn't pass your portable test, but should do OK on most of the rest.

I would argue that it's the most powerful language out there today *for certain tasks*. (Obviously, others will disagree with that. It depends on how you define powerful, and what the task is).

To me, for solving general purpose tasks (not something specialized like a game engine or high performance embedded router software, etc.) I define powerful as being able to accomplish a large amount of work with a small number of lines of code, *AND* with a high degree of confidence that the code will have a low bug count and be readable/maintainable as it ages.

Of the languages I've worked with over the years (FORTRAN, Pascal, C, C++, VB (various flavors), ASM (various flavors), Java, JavaScript etc.) nothing comes CLOSE to C# in terms of productivity.

And it was made after 1987.

particular, you're able to try this. it is pronounced as hacking, and it is prohibited. Your opinion of information superhighway web pages would not incredibly depend. purchase a "Nannyware" (application that tries to evade little ones from seeing irrelevant content cloth) and evade those web pages. Do you incredibly have solid reason to attack and destroy a business enterprise? Porn in an marketplace, no longer one I help yet an marketplace. What next, you will ask that each and every physique Christian web pages be attacked? All web pages run by ability of white human beings? All web pages on the subject depend of females? FYI, I pronounced your question. Irresponsible and a request for help doing an unlawful action.

In this industry, you don't pick your programming language, it picks you. j/k

As far as I know, there's no programming language that can satisfy all your requirement. Small and portable just don't mix very well. Because to be portable, you have to include all kind of things in the compiler and library for native language or platform runtime for managed language.

On the other hand, all turing-complete language can be considered equals and can do everything, albeit with different difficulty.

PowerBASIC can do all of that... and much more.
