You can use ftp programs to upload files on your server. Some of ftp programs which can be easy to use are
File Zilla (free)
Cute Ftp
Core Ftp
Ftp Pro
File zilla is the best ftp out of them. Its free and very easy to use.
Download filezilla and there will be 2 panels. One panel will be your computer and other panel will be server. Select files from computer panel and right click and select upload which will upload whole folder to server.

I've used "WSFTP Pro".
Of course, there is also the ability within Windows (from Version 6.0 and above) to use Windows Explorer.
Simply type in "ftp://" in the address after opening Windows Explorer, and it will prompt you for login information. Then it's just drag-n-drop to get the files to/from the FTP server.

The best one is an FTP client called FileZilla, a free and open-source FTP client that allows for quick upload and download from your chosen server.

One of the best ftp programs is WS-FTP http://www.ipswitchft.com/Individual/Products/Ws_Ftp_Pro/Index.aspx
However the pro version is not free the LE version is shareware.
But you don't need software to ftp stuff, you can do it with windows explorer
Type ftp://www.yourdomain.com in the address bar, then type your ftp username and your ftp password and you'll be connected to your server

12Gb is a lot so it's probably going to take a while... you could try breaking your files up into pieces and zipping them up with a zipping program like 7zip (free) and then uploading them. What are you uploading? Is it for a website? Is it just to back up? You might be better off backing up locally and just uploading things you absolutely NEED to have if something happens. List some more info and maybe we can help further. Josh
