Is there any companies / websites out there that offer completely free website hosting and domain registration?

I have found some that offer from hosting, but registration costs, or free registration but you have to pay for hosting.

Could anyone point me in the direction of getting both for free? And preferably not a sub-domain of another website (ie. MySite.FreeWebs.com)

Thanks!

You may get free hosting, but domain registration always costs money. It's not that bad anyway, you might as well pay for it; a .com domain only costs ~$9.99 per year depending where you buy. If you get a good one you may be able to sell it for a few hundred dollars afterwards too, although that's doubtful.

Here's some good places to buy a domain: http://1and1.com, http://moniker.com, http://godaddy.com

This site also offers free sub-domains that are decent: http://dyndns.com

Recommend that you look at creating a free professional website with Microsoft Office Live Small Business - http://tinyurl.com/officeliveoffer . Currently, MS is offering a free domain name (i.e. yourbusiness.com) for the first year. It also has a free online web design tool that allows you to create web pages without coding. It has 500mb of storage and no ads.

Although many hosts offer a free Website builder you need to check how many pages you are allowed to build. On some cheap hosting plans this can be a low number.

stand alone web site domain registration is NEVER free.

but seriously, if you can't afford 9.99 a year, then what is it you are really trying to do? you spent more then that at mcdonalds the lst time you were there!

If you want to register your own domain (ex: www.example.com) you are going to have to pay. There is no way around it.
