Job Opening for JAVA or .NET?

I m in Mid20's. Planning to shift to software field from 5year teaching job. I am learning C,C++ & JAVA. Will the software companies hire me? (Considering my past 5 year teaching, will it not be hurdle for me?) How much salary i could expect for starters, how do i go about my career change?

Get Certified (for .Net look at the Microsoft certs).

Get Experience (Do stuff for free or cheap from freelancing sites or for friends)

Look for Entry positions (Jr. Programmer, Jr. Webmaster, etc.) at Monster or Dice.com (only Tech jobs there).



Entry level w/o experience -- expect 30K but you can see that double within a few years of experience...

If they do hire you, it would be for the JAVA, not for the C or C++. Of course, it will be a hurdle for you... you're changing professions, essentially. You can expect to start at around 30K, as someone else already said.



As far as how to go about your career change... This question looks awfully familiar, since I answered one just like it not too long ago. I went into detail about how to approach your career change in that post, so there's no need to go into detail again. I can only add that certifications are a waste of time if they're not being used to supplement experience.

They will hire u, if u have enough stuff in c++, java or dot net.

You must have the capability to program, of course u r a teacher, i think u can do.

A C/C++ programmer earns at least twice as a Java one, but that position is harder to find.

in my opinion i desire .information superhighway because as microsoft says, the GC carried out in .information superhighway is extra good and does many stuff that you are able to do it your self in java digital device, and maximum of all, .information superhighway is really person-friendly to study, person-friendly to appreciate.
