Import data field specs from Excel table into Microsoft Access?

The fields are described in an Excel table (fieldname, starting char position, length, datatype), how do I import and get Access to understand these are specs for fields?? (so I can then import data from a .TXT file with no headers)

Use the TransferSpreadSheet function in a Macro. Very easy to use and maintain. I use it all the time.

Will extra data from a Excel file or a delimited TXT file also.

Hope that helps :)

Import data field specs from Excel table into Microsoft Access?

To see examples of how to do this, take a look at http://www.about-access-databases.com/importing-data.html which covers methods to versions 2003 and 2007.

It covers the gernal rules and Do's and Don'ts.

Hope this helped.

You must say (select the the option use headers) to Access. To have fields in correct datatype, all of the rows you´re importing must have the right content in the first import, i.e., all date fields should have dates, all numeric fields should have numbers, etc.

Doing like that, you got your field specification and can format it as you want to export it later.

Pick .xls files in the bottom dropdown (Microsoft Excel (*.xls) in Access, when you're importing) and they'll show.
