Im going to create a website. I am very able to learn so i will therefore be learning HTML, CSS and JAVA.

Is there anything else i should learn?

Will i require some special programs to do anything such as compiling?

What are your experiences learning the required material?

Please suggest some good places to learn each "language" and some locations where I can get the previously mentioned "programs" for free [legally].

Can you suggest any tips and tricks?

I thank you in advance for your help.

First, it is good you are learning the coding.

The more advanced you want to get the more you need to learn. For a start you need to know how to get a site on to the Internet, how to get visitors, update the site and so on.

HTML and CSS are the key things to learn. The chances are you will never remember every Java code that you will need, but it is good to learn as much as possible.

Other things to learn are PHP and MySQL. That allows you to have a database behind the website. Good for if you have members, are selling products and so on. On top of that use of flash and graphic programs (such as photoshop) can be useful. There is a lot to website design and it all depends what you want to do.

If you google each of these ways you should find loads of free and helpful sites. And to the another reply, they are not old ways. They are all still used in many sites and are a great coding languages to learn for web design.

Edit: If you ever plan to get a job or do this all the time learn as much HTML and CSS as you can and hand code. Programs may do it for you, but it is quicker and easier if you can just type it out yourself and you'll feel more proud of your work in the end.

Hi

Te best thing to do is learn HTML first, this will give you a good understanding of how a website is built up, then try adding some css style sheets and try out some PHP.

PHP is a good, language to have under your belt and you can do just about anything with it.

Pick up a free html editor like from coffeecup.com then pick up a free html website template and have a play about with it, you can see tutorials at w3schools.org also for a more full explaination

If you're new at this stuff and do not want to work too much on it, then use the templates provided by Microsoft's Front Page.

Also, you can find legally free HTML or even FLASH templates from the internet. Example: www.TemplateYes.com has great templates.

These days its not worth "learning" too much about such coding programs like HTML etc. as long as you know the general tags. You can easily get good programs which will do the work for you, while you concentrate on the design, layout and looks with data content.

Good luck.

Are you going to create simply website or are you expecting money?

If it is simply website, why should you struggle more on technology. Struggle for success. You can earn money from your website whatever my be the site..Some web hosts take care of HTML. So learn to provide content..That will give success to you.

I heard Ajax is the new thing to learn on top of CSS, XHTML, Javascript, PHP/SQL and Flash!

Good luck!

HTML, CSS AND JAVA IS A VERY OLD WAY OF BUILDING A SITE:

Here's some efficient programs which you can create a professional site in mere days:

It's costs quite a bit but it's worth it. Of course there is the other "free" way but I can't talk about it here.
