You can create multiple sections in a Word document, each with their own headers, footers (or lack thereof) and page numbering.

1. Click where you want the section break to occur.

2. Click the Page Layout tab on the Ribbon.

3. Click the Breaks button in the Page Setup group.

4. Click Next Page.

Now to give a section different headers and/or footers from its predecessor, you do this:

1. Double-click in the header or footer.

2. In the Design tab that open on the Ribbon, deselect the Link to Previous button in the Navigation group.

3. To disconnect the footer, do the same as Step 2, but first double-click in the footer.

Hope that helps.

Word has a nifty footnotes feature that puts in REAL foootnotes, just above the footer area. It even takes care of renumbering them if you add, delete or move any references. Under Word XP (2002) and 2003, you could insert footnotes by clicking on the Insert->Reference->Footnote menu item, but I don't know how to get there with Word 2007. If you can get find it, you'll wonder how you ever wrote a paper without it.

Insert section breaks that aren't the same as previous. Each section can have a different header.
