Okay so I know you can't exactly keep people from clicking on View Source through their toolbars, but I've found that on http://cbox.ws , you can't view source cos even when you click on View Source nothing shows up. Nope, no Notepad, give it a try. Would like to ask if anyone knows how they did it?

I second what Swibs said: right-click, view source - no problem. Using Firefox on Windows 2000 SP4. I can even right-click and directly open their JavaScript file "js_global10.js" to see what's in there.

If I open the page in IE, same thing: the source code is right there.

Seriously, what is so special and unique about your markup that makes you so desperately want to hide it? HTML and JavaScript have been around for over a decade - do you honestly think your code is so new and unique that it warrants hiding?

I'm currently on an older laptop - Pentium II and running Windows 98SE. I had no trouble viewing the source code in IE 6.1 or Firefox 2.0.0.16.

I'm wondering if the problem is with your computer - every now and then I find that I can't get any source code up for any sites. This is usually when my laptop is trying to do too much, although I have noticed it on our P4 desktop sometimes too. Closing a few things down or restarting always solves the problem.

Anyway, it gave us an interesting thing to consider and an answer worth having for the odd occasions when you want to keep someone from getting access to particular information.

I got the source on the website you linked to. I didn't do anything special. I am using FF3 on openSUSE 11.0.

It's not possible for you to hide the source, yet render a page. If you can see the page, you can view the source.

HTML or javascript that is written directly to th DOM object is not visible on page. Do this however only when you really need to or on "user pages" as search engines also will not be able to "see" the page code. for more info: http://www.w3schools.com/htmldom/default.asp

P.S. here is html for that site.
