I am trying to open a file at work it is a asc file. How do i open it. I click on it an an error message comes up an says "windows cannot open file windows needs to know what program created it. windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually selct from a listof programs."
So them i click on use the web service to find the program and a page comes up about potential problems, like windows registry, outdated device drivers, or virus/spyware infections. when try windows registry or outdated device drivers scan they want to charge me to fix problems. so i dont want to do this. i tried opening the asc file at other pcs and it still says the same thing and wont open. What can i do to fix this? i just want to open the file.

An ASC file is essentially a .txt file. Open it with Notepad or Wordpad.

Hope that helps.

There are many different types of files that say "asc". To open it in a reasonable amount of time, you need to know which type it is. If you do not know which type, you will have to try the possible methods one at a time.

For example:

a. If it is ASCII, rename it from .asc to .txt, and then double-click on it.

b. If it is Apohysis Script, download the Apophysis freeware Windows program that Mark Townsend wrote.

c. If it is ADONIS AdoScript File, then you need to buy the BOC Management Office.

d. If it is a Flash Server-Side ActionScript, then you need to install Adobe Flash.

e. If it is something else, then you need the program for whatever it is

Some types of files that say they are ASC include:

.asc - Ascent file

.asc - 3D point file

.asc - Transport armored file

.asc - PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) signature

.asc - Adobe Flash ActionScript communications file

.asc - 3D Studio Max 3D scene file

.asc - ADONIS AdoScript file

.asc - Apohysis script file

.asc - Atlantis Word Processor spellchecker file

.asc - Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) armored encrypted file
