How to embed flash into an html document?

I'm currently using the following code to do this:

WIDTH="850"

HEIGHT="610"

CODEBASE="http://active.macromedia.com/flash5/cabs/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0">

WIDTH="850"

HEIGHT="610"

PLAY="true"

LOOP="true"

QUALITY="high"

scale="noborder"

PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash">

However, all I see is a white background with nothing showing up. There's an xml file which should be pulling up images kept in the /thumbnails directory with pictures of the correct file name stored in there. The .swf file in question is stored in the root directory. There's nothing wrong with the flash scripts or the xml code (as it works offline very nicely) - or even the html code as far as I can see, as that same code works well offline (with the .swf stored locally). It seems the problems occur only when I try to get it working online. I don't think there's anything wrong with the directories, because I've used the same dir tree on another website and that works fine. Also, I don't think it's anything to do with differing ISPs, because the direct URL to the .swf file works just fine...

There's obviously something I'm missing, but I don't know what it could be. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

There is only ONE embed tag. Use the following sites to get the correct flash code for your page:

http://www.freevideocoding.com/

http://cit.ucsf.edu/embedmedia/step1.php

http://www.trap17.com/index.php/Embedded-Media-Player-Code-Generator_t33699.html

http://embedthevideo.com/

http://www.embedurl.com/

If the flash still does not work in your browser, be sure you have the correct plug-in. Flash plug-ins are browser specific.

Step 1

Choose File > Open. Open a Flash movie you have created.

Step 2

Choose File > Export Movie.

Step 3

Name the file "somefilename.swf". Choose the location where the file is to be stored (in your Web folder). Click OK.

Step 4

Open the HTML page where you want to insert your Flash movie. Insert this code:

Note: This is the minimum code you need to embed a Flash movie in a browser. A broken icon will appear on the Web page if the user does not have the Flash plug-in installed.

Note: In the code above there is both an tag and an tag. This is because the tag is recognized by Internet Explorer, and Netscape recognizes the tag and ignores the tag.

Step 5

Type in the address of the HTML file in your browser and look at your first Flash movie.

Let the Flash Program do the Work

The code above is the absolute minimum code to embed Flash movies in HTML pages. It is not recommended to use the minimum code. There should be a few more attributes added:

classid is an attribute to the tag. It tells Internet Explorer to load the ActiveX plug-in if it is not installed

pluginspage is an attribute to the tag. It displays a link to the Shockwave download page if Netscape does not have it

The Flash program can add these attributes for you:

Step 1

Choose File > Publish. Flash will now create the , , and tags for you. It will also create the classid and pluginspage attributes.

Step 2

Open the HTML document that Flash created, view the HTML source and copy the code into your HTML page where you want your Flash movie.

Step 3

Be sure that you have the "somefilename.swf" in your Web folder.

Step 4

Type in the address of the HTML file in your browser and look at your first Flash movie.

First, open up your Word document. Then, push Print Preview. Zoom until the shown page takes up the whole window (without being cut off). Push the PrtScrn button on your keyboard. Go to MS Paint, and push EDIT-PASTE. You now have a picture of the page. Repeat for other pages.
