Hello all. No offense to PHP developers. It's just the talks and all the posts in forums I came across lately made me ask such a question.

I've been hearing lately that PHP is slowly getting outdated as a web development tool as new tools are taking over. .Net and all such.
I'm so passionate about becoming a web developer and I have asked a question about PHP and JAVA.

To learn PHP first and gain some ecperience at web development and then jump to advanced tools.
But is PHP still a good option or should I jump other tools ?

I'd request senior developers to help me out.

Thank you.

PHP is still updating, and it recently updated. The PHP developers released a PHP 5.6.X beta, so yes PHP is still very much alive and is worth learning. PHP itself is easier to configure on HTTP servers and is far less resource hungry on a load then .NET. I've used both, .NET and PHP 5, and PHP had more concurrent connections with less resource usage on the system.

PHP with a mixture of Java Script can be very powerful which is why a lot of website developers prefer PHP over .NET. PHP is also more flexible and is less platform dependent then .NET. .NET web applications can be difficult -- or almost impossible in configurations -- to get working on Linux HTTP servers.

I'm a professional web developer, been working in the industry for years, and I can tell you that PHP is absolutely nowhere near its death yet.

Most modern web applications take advantage of the language's powerful features, programmers love its simplicity and flexibility, and the high quality and quantity documentations ensure the language stays in use.

If you want to pursue a career in web development, learning PHP is somewhat mandatory.

Cheers.

I think it is the language of now and for a good time in the forseeable future. It is one of the two major languages used by the United Nations (French being the other language). It is the language of business. If anything, Japanese or Chinese will become the next language of the future as more business grows from that area of the world.

PHP is still very widely used so in my opinion, it isn't dying and won't be for some time.
