How to upgrade to PHP 5.x in Wordpress?

Hi there.
I'm running a Wordpressblog. It's the newest version (2.6). When I tried installing the plugin called 'WP Piclens' I got this error message:
ERROR: WP Piclens REQUIRES PHP version 5.1 or greater, your WordPress Blog is using PHP 4.4.8.
The question is: why is my Wordpress not up to date with the PHP and how do I upgrade it?
- Furthermore, this got me thinking: could the actual PHP version have something to do with the server I'm hosting my blog on? (hosted at www.one.com if needed)

Thanks in advance, and happy blogging

PHP is a server application that WordPress runs on. PHP4 is very old and support for this version ends in just a few weeks. I would be very concerned about any host that is still running such an old version of PHP - if they don't update their server applications this is a fairly good indicator that the server set up may not be as secure as it should be.

Definitely contact your host and ask them to upgrade you to PHP5. They should be running a minimum of PHP5.2.5 by now.

While you are asking them that, also check that they have allow_url_fopen turned off and register_globals turned off on their servers. There is not much point running the latest versions of WordPress on an insecure server. Both of these are settings within PHP and both have been exploited in the past by hackers attacking WordPress installs.

It's a problem with your host for sure. Sometimes you are able to change the version of PHP in your hosting control panel. According to One's listed information, they definitely support PHP 5, so check and see if you have an option you can change in your account.

Nope. not for factors. There could must be different _serious_ perks. truly. See, that sixty greenbacks ought to purchase me a video interest...or some hardcover books. Or a twelve months-long bus bypass domestically. i ought to genuinely use the extra money in genuine lifestyles for genuine-lifestyles issues. i ought to get a advantageous new pair of footwear with it. Or new outfits. heavily, that's not Farmville. i don't think of anybody is going to pay for _more points_ by myself. Now if our debts have been bulletproof? possibly. If our Reputations right here have been restored to their appropriate unique state? possibly. could we get get entry to to extra ideas with emails and/or inner maximum messages? possibly. yet sixty greenbacks out of pocket, on the same time as quickly as a twelve months, is expensive, truly given the way Yahoo! solutions is administered these days. we'd want some _awesome_ for our money.

Yes, PHP is installed and maintained by your host.

Contact them to find out if they have any plans updating... they really have no business serving up an outdated version. :-)
