I have a 42 page word document and the 2nd page contains the table of contents. I want to hyperlink the table of contents so that the readers can click on the table of contents titles and go straight to that section instead of scrolling down to that page.

Can someone please tell me how to do this? I have Word 2000.

Thanks a lot in advance

That sounds like the other sections don't use one of the "Heading x" paragraph styles the table of contents builder recognizes.

Check the styles on the ones that work and compare with the ones that don't.

Hope that helps.

This is a formatting/styles issue, where the Table of Contents is not picking up all of the headings you require.

You will need to go to a heading that the Table of Contents currently does include, using the Paste Format tool, first click and select the whole paragraph of the heading that is working in the contents. Double click on the Paste Format tool (so that it stays on to apply the correct format to one para after the other - ensure you click in the margin and drag over the entire paragraph of the Heading).

Updating the table of contents is as simple as placing your cursor within the table of contents and pressing F9 - entire contents.

If your table of contents is not picking up all of the different levels that you require, you will need to select all of your table of contents, Insert -> Table of Contents

-> Options. Check that the headings you need have a heading level number against them -> OK -> OK (Update).

-> (tick) Use hyperlinks as page numbers.

You should now see an updated table of contents.

Remember you can always go back and try again. It's the way to learn and understand how things work. =.- ))

First, your document has to be structured properly so Word will know what items to list in your Table of Contents. Mark off content on your document with "Heading 1" "Heading 2" etc. styles.

Now, move your cursor to where you want your Table of Contents listed.

Go to the Insert menu > Index and Tables > Table of Contents tab.

From here, customize what you want on your Table of Contents: How many levels of Headings to display, whether to display page numbers, etc. Then just click the OK button, and Word will generate a Table of Contents with hyperlinks.

be conscious makes use of kinds to generate the table of contents. What you've were given to do is assign a form to each and every of your headings, then at the same time as you bypass to Insert - Reference - table of Contents, be conscious will opt for up the shape headings and robotically generate a table of contents. i'm no longer particular which version of be conscious you've, in spite of the undeniable fact that i exploit be conscious 2003.
