Update:

Okay, so you got all the boards you want. Now all it needs is some color, a banner, icons, and a name.

To change the name, go to "General Settings". There, the very first thing you will see is "Board Information" and below that "Board Title". Change it to whatever you want, such as "Nancy Drew Craze".

To add banners and color the boards a bit, go to "Skin/Forum Colors". Click on "Create Skin" or "Modify Skin". On "Modify Skin", choose which skin you want to modify, which would be the default. Once loaded, choose what you want to name the skin, choose what font you want to use *Google if you are unsure*, add in the URL for your banner, and choose the colors you want to use. To use a custom background, add in the URL of an image you want to use in the "Background Image URL:" box. Then down below is the weird addresses. There should be a color chart below them, but if you want more choices, refer to the link in the sources. You'll have to mess around with it to see what does what.

After you are done modifying the skin, click on the "Modify Skin" button at the bottom, which will take you back to the administration area. Then all you have to do is add some code to make it stand out.

There's a difference between Global Headers and Footers and Main Headers and Footers. Global affects the entire site while Main just affects the main page. Be careful if you are going to place something from the Main to the Global, cause it could have disastrous affects. Follow the instructions if you are going to use somebody else's code, because they did it for a reason: so that your site doesn't die in a horrible accident. ;-)

Of course, in order for your site to actually become a site, you will have to do some advertising here and there. You'll start out slow, of course, but don't give up. Just keep on advertising and soon your site will become one of the top dogs! Of course, remember that the same thing over and over again isn't going to cut it. People have the attention span of a chiwawa *No offense anyone*, so keep updating the site if you want to keep all your members active and happy.

And that should do it. If you have any questions, you can email me at julianewland@yahoo.com. :-)

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. A domain name is a name you want to call your website. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95. You can see their Plan Details accompanied with reliable reviews regarding their service at:

http://www.threehosts.com/reviews/1st

Here I have copied and pasted its features from their website to view:

- Free Domain Forever

- Unlimited Space

- Unlimited Transfer

- Blog (wordpress)

- Forum (phpbb,bulletin)

- Host UNLIMITED Domains (Support All Domain Names)

- 2,500 POP/Imap Email Accounts

- SSH (Secure Shell), SSL, FTP, Stats

- CGI, Ruby (RoR), Perl, PHP, MySQL

- Front Page Extensions

- Free Site Builder

- 24/7 Superb/Responsive Sales/Support

- Free Search Engine Submission

They also offer "Free Site Builder" that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any website creating program. (WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get) You can use this service optionally.

******IMPORTANT********

* This service was awarded “The Best Web Host OF The Year”.

* If you sign up for this service you will have $75 credits to advertise your website with the google & yahoo search engines for free!

* You Can Register A Free Domain or Use Your Existing Domains. They Support All Domain Names.

Try Blink Web or Wix, their easy to manage free website (or blog) has cool features that include drag and drop capability, switch designs on the fly, youtube and google video, custom html, upload images, flikr photo gallery, visitor stats and more. You can also buy a new domain instantly, or host your existing domain for free and make it your own (www.yourown.com)

If your looking for something more advanced but still user friendly then try XsitePro, Sitebuilder Designs or Calvary Studios, they have everything you need in building your own website: domain name registration or domain transfer, web hosting, web builder, site maintenance and email accounts. Everything is laid out in an easy to follow step by step instruction. Some of the features included enable you to add your own themes, videos, images or mp3 music making your site unique to you. Pricing is comparable and affordable too.

I hope that I was of some help and answered your question.

First of all you need to purchase a domain name

Secondly you need to purchase a hosting account

without either of them you won't have a website.

Thirdly you need some HTML software, the easiest to use is one called Microsoft Front Page, it works just like Microsoft Word, or a more complicated one is Called Dreamweaver, (You can download both of these as a trial)

After creating your Web Site you need to upload it to your Domain Name using a FTP Software (which you can download as a 30 day trail).

But make sure you call your first page of the Website as index.html otherwise, your website will not display on screen.

Please note I'm a trained Web Designer and I do really recommend that if it is a professional site you are looking for is to contact a local Web Design Company.

I would use XHTML and css. Maybe add some php in the site to give it some cool features.
