Question:
I want to build a website and have questions?
2010-06-17 07:43:00 UTC
I want to build a website but I was wondering are there sites out there that assist a person in building a website? I don't want to manually build my website with the html codes and I do not want to pay someone to build for me.

From what I understand I have to first build the website and then get a host? But where do I build and design this website?

I am lost, any help will be appreciated.

Ok, there are lots of web builders out there that will build a website for you. A good example is webs http://www.webs.com/ - it has an easy to use website builder, anyone can do it, no code required. In fact, it can be done for free, and you'll get something like:

mywebsite.webs.com

Now if you want something like www.mywebsite.com then you can pay to upgrade:

http://www.webs.com/premium.jsp

As always, I encourage people to build there own sites, because its cheaper and more customizable. Its not too hard to find someone to build a site, maybe even find a teen or young adult who does it as a hobby and see if they'll make one for you.

But, if you don't want to learn code, I'd say this is the way to go. Check out the free service, and if you like it, upgrade to paid service so you can get your own domain name.

Have fun building your site.

If you want to build a website that actually gets visitors, then you have to do it right. The best system I have seen is explained well at http://www.sitesell.com/rayfoucher.html It takes lots of work to build real website but if you have the right tools and guidance it makes it easier. This system has everything, hosting, keyword search etc included.

And DON'T get your domain name first. The correct research will help you get a domain name that can pull more traffic than one that just sounds good.

Hi

First step is to decide on if you want to buy your own domain name or use a free one.

Owned domains would be similar to : http://mysite.com and they cost about $12.00 a year.

Free ones are like : http://blazingsites.com/mysite (and so typically everyone who visits the site will know it is free and it can look less professional if that matters to you).

Typically places that offer free domains, host them for free too . . . so you would be all set to get started . .OR, if you wanted to look more professional and had your own domain, you would need to find a host for your domain . . . this can cost around $4.00 per month . . or much more if you have a huge site with lots of storage and bandwidth needs.

As someone said, wordpress is a nice place to start. It is a FREE blog site that allows for thousands of modifications that are all easy to do without any programming knowledge. Many of my clients use wordpress as a base . . but do not even run blog sites . . .they just use wordpress to create their sites. It is very easy.

There are also many other options to build a non technical site.

If you have any questions, just ask . . . . you can reach me at http://dreamxl.com click the support button!

Good luck

You should use webnode.com, a free website builder! There are many video tutorials, to help you along the way. Also, no knowlege of html is necessary, but the great thing about webnode is that you can incorporate html into it, once you have learned more.

You can use Drupal, a content management system. You do not need to know much of HTML. There is alot about Drupal online, like videos (www.learnbythedrop.com) and other documentation at www.drupal.org. You build a good website in like 5 hours with Drupal.

To set up a website, there are three steps you will need to take:

*** Get Your Domain Name

A domain name is a name you want to call your website. For example, yahoo.com, google.com, wikipedia.org... . To obtain a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. Take into consideration that you cannot buy a domain for life. You get it for a period of one to ten years. If you fail to renew the domain name at the end of its term, the registration of the domain will be revoked and the domain name may be acquired by another party.

*** Choose a Web Host and Sign Up For an Account

A web hosting service provides you with online space. This enables you to get your web pages online at your registered domain name.

*** Design Your Web Pages and Get Them Online

There are three ways to create and get your website online:

1- Some web hosts offer Easy-To-Use Site Builder that helps you build your web pages without difficulty, even if you are not skilled in using any website creating software. Their web builder is a WYSIWYG program (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get). This means that the finished page will display exactly the way it was designed.

2- You can create the pages offline with your favorite program (DreamWeaver, FrontPage, Microsoft Publisher, iWeb, etc.), and then upload them to your web host. This is another easy way to get your website online.

3- Frontpage Extensions allow you to publish your site directly from the FrontPage application. This means that you will not have to upload files through FTP, or another method. Microsoft FrontPage is a popular WYSIWYG HTML editor and web site administration tool from Microsoft.

* How to Choose a Reliable Web Host? Where Can You Get Started? How Much Does It Cost?

First, take into consideration that web hosting is a global service. It does not matter what country you are located in; US, UK, Canada, Australia or India. It is good to note that the cost of hosting services in most countries is generally a little more expensive in comparison to the same services in Canada and the United States. Specifically, American web hosts offer a much better value for money than any local hosting.

If you want to start your website, I recommend getting your domain and web hosting plan from the same company. This way, it is often possible to get your domain for free, due to some web hosting services offering a domain as a free gift today. Moreover, these web hosts usually offer a free “Site Builder”' to create your website without paying any additional fees. By taking advantage of all of the aforementioned services, everything you need for setting up your website is provided just in one hosting package.

Don't trust dishonest claims like "Best web hosting only $1 /month" or "Get the cheapest web hosting without sacrificing quality and features!!". Take into consideration that some hosting companies are cheating and lying to their customers. It is very important that your service be uptime (functioning and available for use) . It means you can access your account whenever you want to update your web pages, and users can enter your website whenever they refer to your site address. If your hosting service is not uptime it can be catastrophic!

Take a look at:

http://www.threehosts.com/reviews

There you can reach the three reputable companies that are leaders in the website hosting industry.

And the best service available on the web:

http://www.threehosts.com/reviews/1st

Only $3.95 /month (with discount coupon)

Hope this helps.

hmmm, they ought to be helping you, i think of via dreamweaver you need to be waiting to connect thu the host, they should have given y ou the passwords so as which you would be able to upload your stuff. i'm taking dreamweaver immediately, we upload our homework to ftp area and he gave us the suitable passwords and he gave us the url for our area. do not forget to synchronize, I alwa;ys forget that. I quite have not gotten a authentic internet site on line yet, yet i'm enormously particular you purely ought to put in that host information once you positioned up the controlled internet site thingy.
