hi i would like to know if you can help me out and tell me if there is any possible way to view my files on my home computer outside my house. the reason why i ask because when you are transferring computer files to a hosting account you use ftp. i was wondering can you do the same to view your files at home from a internet cafe. if you can can you please provide the link. please tell me the free ways and paid ways that are possible to make this happen

Ftp transfers files. To view them on your home computer, not on the internet cafe computer, you need a remote program of some kind. Enable Remote Desktop Connection on your home computer, or install a VNC server. Then run Remote Desktop at the internet cafe or install a VNC client, and connect to your computer.

You can, but I would strongly advise you not to. FTP is not secure.



If you must do this, look into SFTP (secure FTP) or - better - SCP.



EDIT: Colanth, you must know it's not so simple as 'run a VNC server', when routers and firewalls (which most people have) become involved...
